CIBC Costco Mastercard travel insurance, in short: CIBC's card page lists no travel insurance. It names 2 coverages: mobile device insurance up to $1,000, and purchase security with extended warranty. Our advice: don't rely on this card for emergency medical, trip cancellation or rental car cover; arrange those separately before you leave.
Does the CIBC Costco Mastercard include travel insurance?
Not according to CIBC's own card page, checked October 3, 2026. It lists mobile device insurance and purchase security and extended warranty insurance, and doesn't mention travel medical, trip cancellation or interruption, flight delay, lost baggage or travel accident coverage. CIBC points to the card's insurance certificate for full details, so read it if you need certainty for a specific trip.
What insurance does the CIBC Costco Mastercard include?
| Coverage | What CIBC says |
|---|---|
| Mobile device insurance | Up to $1,000 of repair or replacement coverage when you fully charge or finance an eligible mobile device to the card |
| Purchase security | Covers most purchases charged to the card |
| Extended warranty | Extends the manufacturer's warranty by up to 1 additional year on most purchases |
| Travel medical, trip cancellation, baggage, flight delay | Not listed |
| Rental car collision and loss damage | Not listed |
These are the same on the standard card and the World Mastercard. See our card review for the earn rates.
Does the CIBC Costco Mastercard cover rental cars?
CIBC doesn't list rental car collision or loss damage coverage on the card's page. Before you decline the rental company's damage waiver, confirm you're covered some other way: another credit card that includes it, your own auto policy, or the waiver itself. If you book a rental through Costco Travel, the same applies.
Does the CIBC Costco World Mastercard add travel benefits?
CIBC says the World Mastercard version has the same fees and rates as the standard card, "but also includes experiences available only to World Mastercard cardholders", linking to Mastercard's own benefits pages. Those are Mastercard perks, not insurance. It needs a personal income of $50,000 or household income of $80,000; compare both on our Costco card page.
Where can Costco members get travel insurance?
Three common routes:
1. Costco's partner: Costco offers members travel insurance through Manulife, for emergency medical costs outside your province or Canada. See our Costco insurance page.
2. Your workplace benefits plan: many group plans include out-of-province emergency medical; check the limits and trip length.
3. A credit card that includes travel insurance: some cards with an annual fee bundle travel medical, trip cancellation and rental car cover. Compare the fee against buying a policy per trip.
Should you book travel on the CIBC Costco Mastercard?
It earns 1% on Costco Travel bookings, and Executive members also earn their 2% reward on purchases made directly from Costco Travel. On a $5,000 package, that's $50 from the card and $100 from the reward. If the trip needs insurance, though, a card that includes travel cover may be worth more than the extra 1%. Compare all the best cards for Costco before a big booking.
