Costco appliances in Canada: delivery, installation, warranty and returns

Costco appliances bought on Costco.ca include delivery, basic installation and haul-away on select models, a 2-year warranty and 90 days to return. What the installers will and won't hook up, and whether the ExcellencePlus+ plan is worth it.

Costco appliances in Canada come with a 2-year warranty, 90 days to return and, on Costco.ca orders, delivery, basic installation and haul-away included on select models. Costco.ca lists those three alongside the Executive 2% reward and 2% back with the CIBC Costco Mastercard, checked October 5, 2026. The catch is in "basic": installers plug in and level most appliances, but they don't connect gas, water lines or dishwashers, so budget for a plumber or gas fitter if you need one.

What does Costco's basic installation include?

It depends on the appliance. From Costco's delivery and installation guides:

ApplianceInstallers willInstallers won't
Fridges and freezersSet up shelves and bins, plug in, align doors, levelConnect the water line or ice maker
Electric rangesConnect to an existing 220-volt outlet with a new cord, level, testHard-wire a range with no plug
Gas rangesUnpack, set grates and burners, levelConnect the gas line
WashersConnect the drain hose and existing hot and cold taps, level, check for leaksHook up a washer with no electrical grounding
Electric dryersConnect to a 220-volt outlet, vent with a new metal kit, testInstall if the vent doesn't go outside
DishwashersUnwrap it so you can check its conditionInstall it, or remove an old one still installed

Delivery teams also won't remove doors or windows, lift above their waist, do carpentry or electrical work, reverse fridge doors or install anti-tip brackets. Slide-in ranges are delivered and unpacked but not set up. If access isn't suitable, the driver can cancel the delivery and Costco.ca refunds you, so measure doorways and stairs first.

Will Costco take away your old appliance?

On select models, yes. Haul-away is one for one, the same type of appliance, from the delivery address, at the same visit. The old unit has to be disconnected from water, gas and power, clean outside, dry and empty inside, and indoors or in the garage; laundry can't be stacked. If it isn't ready, Costco says haul-away is declined and not rescheduled.

Should you buy a washer and dryer at Costco?

For most households it is a strong option, and the costco washing machine range on Costco.ca includes LG, Samsung and Whirlpool. Installation is where laundry differs: washers are hooked up to your existing taps, and electric dryers are vented with a new metal kit, but the team won't connect a gas dryer to the gas line, install a dryer whose vent doesn't reach outside, stack a new unit on an old one or reuse an old stacking kit. Order a new stacking kit or pedestal with the pair, or the team won't come back to fit it.

What warranty do Costco appliances have?

Costco extends the manufacturer's warranty on major appliances to 2 years from purchase when it is shorter, and Concierge Services give free tech support. The CIBC Costco Mastercard can add up to a year on top of the manufacturer's warranty, per its certificate; see how the layers stack.

Costco also sells the optional ExcellencePlus+ protection plan, administered by Asurion. On appliances it brings coverage to 5 years in total (the 2 years plus 3 more), with in-home service where the manufacturer offers it, no deductible, surge protection, up to $300 per claim for spoiled food from a fridge or freezer, up to $50 for laundry if a washer or dryer is out for more than 7 days, and a no-lemon replacement after a fourth repair for the same defect. You can cancel for a full refund within 90 days if no service has been done.

Is the ExcellencePlus+ plan worth it?

Usually not on a basic model, sometimes on an expensive fridge. Years 1 and 2 are already covered at no cost, so you are paying for years 3 to 5. It makes most sense on a high-end refrigerator, where one sealed-system repair or a $300 food loss would cover the plan. Before buying, check your card's coverage and whether the plan's price is more than about 10% of the appliance.

Can you return an appliance to Costco?

Yes, within 90 days: major appliances are on Costco's 90-day list (countertop microwaves are excluded from it). For a large Costco.ca order, start the return under Orders & Returns and a carrier calls within 1 to 2 weeks to book the pickup. Installation services Costco sells separately aren't returnable; see the full return policy.

How do you pay less for appliances at Costco?

  • Mix & Match: Costco.ca's current offer saves on qualifying major appliances bought together, until October 31, 2026, limited to 2 redemptions per membership and one delivery address.
  • Price adjustment: if the price drops within 30 days, Costco refunds the difference; see the price adjustment guide.
  • Rewards: on a $2,000 fridge ordered online, the Executive 2% reward is worth $40 and the CIBC Costco Mastercard adds $40 (2% on Costco.ca), so $80 back.
  • Timing: appliance offers cluster around Black Friday.
